Sandwich Saturdays

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, some of The Promise Land Church members gathered alongside Brother Al-Amin Muhammed and his organization We Rise Above The Streets Recovery Outreach to assist in his outreaching mission to continue to meet the needs of the community. His slogan is one that is easily remembered and impactful “if we eat, they eat.” Brother Al-Amin Muhammed who himself was homeless for 10 years, reminded every one of us how important it is to spread love, compassion, empathy, and understanding. He shared with us how beautiful it is for people from all walks of life to come together to provide for our community because who are we as humans if we ignore the suffering of others. Brother Muhammad charged Promise Landers and the volunteers present to listen more, speak less, and remember to bring our smiles because even with our masks on we can smile. As the volunteers set off for Billings Park, we were reminded to make eye contact with those we serve. In doing so, we restore dignity because even in suffering dignity matters.

It is truly inspiring to see a diverse group of volunteers come together! Volunteers passionately prepare the sandwiches every Saturday morning at Lincoln Middle School followed by handing out the sandwiches, clothing, toiletries, and other supplies at Billings Park. Anyone interested in volunteering are encouraged to arrive at Lincoln Middle School between 9:30-9:45 a.m. *Note: Summer schedule change- meet at Billings Park at 10 a.m.

The Promise Land Church is mission-focused and honored to partner with We Rise Above The Streets Recovery Outreach, which is funded by the community. Donations are accepted and appreciated at the church (100 Eisenhower Avenue, East Syracuse, NY 13057) on Sunday mornings from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. You may also email the church office at tplcsyracuse@gmail.com if you would like to arrange a convenient drop-off day/time. TPLC’s outreach community coordinators will make sure that all donations get delivered to We Rise Above The Streets Recovery Outreach on a weekly basis. You may also bring your donations directly to Sandwich Saturdays.

ALL clothing donations need to be in NEW or GENTLY loved condition and more importantly cleaned prior to donation.
